Farmers from various villages gathered at the electricity office on Wednesday, closing the main gate to protest against the government and the corporation due to ongoing power cuts. According to information, farmers from the villages of Meerpur, Nangal, Bihali, and Saidpur claim that there has been continuous power cut in the supply of tube wells for the past week, leading to the inability to irrigate crops.
Former village head Harpal Singh, along with Yudhishthir, Krishna Kumar, Ramkishan, Rajbir, Shambher Singh, Karmabir, Satish Kumar, Rakesh Kumar, Deshraj, Virender Singh, Bhopal, Satyavir Singh, and others protested against the government and power corporation, stating that the supply of tube wells has not been regular for the past week. This has put the farmers’ crops at the verge of destruction.
They mentioned that the livelihood of farmers in this region is entirely dependent on crops. If the crops are destroyed, the farmers will also be ruined. In such a situation, the government should provide an adequate supply of electricity. The protesters warned the government and the corporation that if the electricity supply is not corrected in time, the farmers will be forced to stage protests.
The cable installed for electricity supply to the tube wells is damaged, causing issues for the farmers. However, estimates for a new cable have been prepared and sent to higher authorities. The cable will be installed soon to resolve this issue, ensuring an adequate supply of electricity to the farmers. – Praveen Kumar, JE, Electricity Corporation, Mandi Ateli.
