The impact of the farmers’ protest is now being seen on fruit and vegetable markets in Sonipat as well. In places like Meerut, where a significant amount of fruits and vegetables come from markets in Delhi, there is also a supply of fruits like kinnow from Punjab. On Tuesday, there was no effect on the arrival of fruits and vegetables in markets, but it is expected that due to road closures, there will be a decrease in supply starting today or tomorrow. Because of the farmers’ protest, traders have procured more vegetables and fruits from Delhi markets like Azadpur and Ghazipur.
In the new vegetable market in Meerut, tomatoes, onions, ginger, garlic, green chilies, capsicum, broccoli, lotus stem, mushrooms, French beans, and other vegetables are brought from Delhi markets daily. More than 50 percent of the business in the vegetable market is of vegetables from outside. In this regard, the vegetable market supervisor Om Pal Saini said that there was no problem in the arrival of vegetables from Delhi on Tuesday.
If the protest continues, its effect will start to be seen on the Meerut vegetable market in two days. If the supply of vegetables decreases, inflation will also increase. Meanwhile, Manoj Gupta, the president of the new Galla Mandi Association, said that the food stock stays in everyone’s warehouses for four to five days. The impact of the farmers’ protest will also be felt on the arrival of food grains.
