Frustrated by ongoing power cuts, farmers from various villages staged a protest outside the electricity office on Wednesday, sealing the main entrance to demonstrate their grievances against the government and the power corporation. According to sources, farmers from the villages of Meerpur, Nangal, Bihali, and Saidpur reported continuous power supply disruptions in well pumps over the past week, hampering their irrigation activities and jeopardizing their crop yield.
Former village head Harpal Singh, along with Yudhishthir, Krishna Kumar, Ramkishan, Rajbir, Shamsher Singh, Karmabir, Satish Kumar, Rakesh Kumar, Deshraj, Virendra Singh, Bhopal, Satyavir Singh, and others, led the protest against the government and the power corporation, highlighting the urgent need for consistent electricity supply. They emphasized the vital reliance of the farmers on crop sustenance and livelihoods.
They warned the authorities that if prompt action wasn’t taken to rectify the electricity supply to the wells, forcing them to engage in protests and demonstrations was inevitable.
The malfunction of cables supplying electricity to the wells had resulted in severe complications for the farmers in these areas. However, estimates for a new cable have been prepared and forwarded to higher officials for consideration, aiming to swiftly resolve the issue and ensure adequate electricity provision for the farmers in the region. – Praveen Kumar, JE, Electricity Corporation, Mandi Ateli.
