In a recent success at Ivy Hospital, Hoshiarpur, doctors successfully re-implanted the hand of a farmer from Una.
The farmer accidentally amputated his left hand while operating a woodcutting machine. Swiftly brought to Ivy Hospital, the patient underwent a successful re-implantation surgery, thanks to a dedicated team of doctors, including Dr. Sumit Toor, a plastic and reconstructive surgeon, and Dr. Manpreet Kaur and Dr. Harpreet Singh Atwal, who employed advanced microsurgical techniques.
During the re-implantation, Dr. Toor skillfully reconnected blood vessels, nerves, tendons, bones, and tissues, highlighting the hospital›s commitment to advancing medical excellence.
Dr. Toor emphasized the significant physical and emotional challenges faced by patients with traumatic amputations. He stressed that timely re-implantation offers new hope in cases of traumatic limb loss. He also highlighted the critical role of preserving and properly transporting the amputated part, underscoring the importance of time in such procedures.
While acknowledging that severely crushed injuries may not always be suitable for re-implantation, Dr. Toor pointed out that osteoplastic reconstructive surgery could salvage the hand.Post-surgery, the patient can anticipate a considerably improved quality of life, according to Dr. Toor.
