Fadnavis affirms assembly election bid, rules out Lok Sabha debut in 2024

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis clarified his electoral plans, stating that he intends to contest the state assembly elections in 2024 but has no plans to make his debut in the Lok Sabha elections. During an informal conversation on the eve of “Diwali Milan” at Meghdoot bungalow in Mumbai, Fadnavis emphasized his commitment to participating in the Assembly elections.
Fadnavis, who contested his first assembly elections in 1999 from Nagpur West and subsequently represented the Nagpur South West Constituency in Vidarbha region, affirmed his dedication to the state politics. While acknowledging that predicting the future in politics is unpredictable, he assured his allegiance to the BJP, expressing readiness to embrace any role assigned by the party leadership.
Responding to speculation about potential responsibilities at the Centre, Fadnavis dismissed rumors of contesting Lok Sabha polls, stating, “I am not shifting anywhere. I will contest from my own assembly constituency in Nagpur South West.”
Addressing the broader political landscape, Fadnavis expressed optimism about the BJP’s success in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, predicting a hat-trick for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He underscored the importance of maintaining a healthy political atmosphere in Maharashtra, emphasizing the state’s tradition of not treating rivals as enemies and hoping for improved relations between ruling and opposition parties.
On environmental concerns, Fadnavis expressed concern over air pollution in Mumbai. He acknowledged the positive impact of court-ordered restrictions on bursting firecrackers but highlighted the need for continued efforts to address pollution issues and foster a cleaner environment.
Fadnavis’s clarity on his electoral plans provides insight into the political landscape in Maharashtra and the BJP’s strategies for the upcoming elections.
