A guest lecture was taken by the eminent scientist and Professor Dr. Dipshikha Chakravortty(Department of Microbiology and Cell Biology, Indian Institute of Science Bangalore, India) on the importance of an antimicrobial host protein ‘Bactericidal/ permeability-increasing protein (BPI)’ expression in the host macrophages against gram negative bacterial edotoxin induced sepsis. She delivered her talk in the Department of Experimental Medicine and Biotechnology, PGIMER, Chandigarh. The students actively participated in the discussion about the BPI and its future prospects in the advanced fields of research and therapeutic interventions against septic shock. Dr Dipshikha explained Haloarcheal bioengineered BPI nanoparticles as magic bullets against septic shock. Dr. Dibyajyoti Banerjee (Professor and Head, the Department of Experimental Medicine and Biotechnology) summed up the discussion session by a concluding remark that in clinical scenario of escalating antibiotic resistance, host based therapeutics are the future of medicine. This guest lecture not only provided a platform for intellectual exchange but also served as an inspiration for students to pursue research and contribute to the advancement of medical science.
