Employee union announces indefinite strike

Karnataka government employees union has announced to go on an indefinite strike from 1 March if their demand for implementation of recommendations of the Seventh Pay Commission is not fulfilled.
Basavaraja Bommai may suffer a setback as a result of the strike announcement. If the demand is not granted, all government employees would demonstrate throughout the state, according to union president CS Shadakshari, and they will also refuse to carry out their official responsibilities. Shadakshari claimed that Chief Minister Basavaraja Bommai had overlooked the concerns of government workers while speaking to journalists in Shimoga. Nine lakh government employees in Karnataka are upset by CM Bommai’s actions.
The union president further said that government employees will take part in the protest by abstaining from their duties at schools, colleges, hospitals, and other government institutions.
He also said that the protest will end only when the government issues interim orders for the implementation of the recommendations of the Seventh Pay Commission. If the orders are not issued, the protest will continue, Shadakshari said.
Government employees in Karnataka had been awaiting the announcement by the Bommai administration that the 7th Pay Commission for salary revisions will be implemented. The government employees were disappointed afterwards when CM Bommai did not mention the 7th Pay Commission in his budget statement.
The Karnataka government employees have made three major demands which include the implementation of the 7th Pay Commission in the state, implementation of the old pension scheme (OPS), and implementation of at least 40 per cent of fitment facilities.
