Elderly woman allegedly killed by brother-in-law in Akhnoor

SRINAGAR: Tragedy struck in the Akhnoor area of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday as an elderly woman was reportedly killed by her brother-in-law, casting a pall of sorrow over the community.

The victim, identified as Vaishnu Devi (65), was the wife of the late Sh Shiv Ram Sharma, residing in Bardal Khurd village.

According to officials, the accused, Pooran Chand, son of Amar Nath, and also a resident of Bardal Khurd village, allegedly perpetrated the heinous act by crushing the woman to death with stone pelting.

In response to the harrowing incident, authorities swiftly swung into action, registering a case under FIR no. 72/2024.

The accused has been taken into custody by the concerned police station as investigations into the tragic incident unfold.

The shocking incident has left the community reeling in shock and disbelief, prompting calls for swift justice and stringent measures to prevent such atrocities in the future.
