Punjab’s Education Minister, Harjot Bains, joined lawyers in Ludhiana to celebrate Lohri. During the event, he announced a personal contribution of Rs 10 lakhs from his private funds to address issues and implement infrastructural improvements raised by lawyers. Minister Bains highlighted ongoing educational reforms and assured that by March 31, no school in Punjab would lack essential facilities or face any issues, emphasizing a commitment to rectifying concerns within the education sector.
Minister Bains stated that the government had recruited 10,000 teachers last year and plans to hire an additional 10,000 in the upcoming year, aiming to fill staff shortages in schools. He underscored the positive transformation of 8,000 out of the 20,000 schools inherited from previous administrations. Bains also addressed the expensive real estate in urban areas, acknowledging that while land prices are high, significant efforts are being made to enhance education in the state.
The Education Minister mentioned a Rs 17 crore investment for converting a government school in Ludhiana’s Jawahar Nagar Camp into a merit-based school.
He affirmed that private schools would also benefit from these improvements. Bains stressed that previous administrations neglected schools, but his government is actively working to enhance the education sector.
The announcement comes as part of the ongoing efforts to reform and elevate the education system in Punjab, with a specific focus on providing better facilities, addressing teacher shortages, and upgrading infrastructure in both government and private schools.
