The Enforcement Directorate conducted raids at the residences of Tamil Nadu Minister Senthil Balaji in Karur and Chennai. The raids are being conducted in connection to a money-laundering case revolving around an alleged job scam when he was a minister in erstwhile AIADMK government.
Last month, the Supreme Court authorised a police and ED investigation into an alleged cash-for-jobs scheme against Balaji, who also holds the Prohibition and Excise post. Income Tax Department raids were conducted at over 40 locations in Tamil Nadu, including residences and offices of government contractors allegedly linked to state electricity minister Senthil Balaji, a close confidant of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin. Senthil denied the reports and urged cooperation with the agency.
