Droupadi Murmu will be rubber stamp Rashtrapati: Yashwant

Droupadi Murmu, a presidential candidate backed by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), will be a rubber stamp Rashtrapati, in case she wins the election, said the opposition contestant Yashwant Sinha. I have repeatedly stressed that the election is not about identities, but rather about ideologies.

The Presidential election is not an individual battle but a fight for the issues of the country. While addressing the media persons at the Congress party headquarter in Chandigarh, Sinha, who was holding his first campaign in Chandigarh, further said, I am ready for a public presidential debate. Is my rival candidate ready for the same? In wake of the prevailing scenario, should we have a rubber stamp president, if it happens then it is most likely to harm the nation?

Further, divulging the information about his manifesto, he said that in case he wins the polls, he shall be accountable to the constitution, and to the constitution alone. He shall use all his power, without favour and fear, to restrain the government if it deviates from the principles of the constitution. Sinha further said that it is for the very first time after independence that people hailing from all communities are feeling unsafe.

He also took on the BJP-led government saying that the ruling faction is misusing the CBI, ED, and IT departments and shall immediately stop the government from misusing such institutions and agencies against the opposition. Siha said, I will not also hesitate to restrain the opposition after getting elected the president of the country if they violate the values and norms of the constitution. Aforesaid institutions are being weaponised to target opposition leaders to engineer defections in opposition parties and topple opposition-run state governments. Therefore, it is the need of the hour to understand the ruling dispensation’s agenda of one party, one ruler which is meant to convert democratic India into an imitator of communist China. While reacting to a question over the support of AAP, he said that he is seeking support from all parties and is likely to contact the party leaders for the same ahead of polls. So far, Sinha has visited several states as part of the election campaigns.
