Drive launched to boost voter enrollment for Gurdwara Board elections

Drive launched to boost voter enrollment for Gurdwara Board elections

The District Administration has embarked on an intensive campaign to maximize voter registration for the upcoming Gurdwara Board Elections. The drive, which will extend until February 29, 2024, aims to collaborate with Gurdwara Committees to encourage and facilitate eligible Sikhs in completing the enrollment process.

Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain, accompanied by Sub Divisional Magistrate Chandrajyoti Singh, visited Gurdwara Sahib Sohana to engage with the management and urge them to raise awareness among eligible Sikhs. She appealed to the community to promptly fill and submit the required forms to register as voters for the Gurudwara Board Elections.
During a review meeting, Deputy Commissioner Jain expressed concern over the low number of forms received thus far. Emphasizing the importance of swift action, she highlighted that rural voters should submit forms with Revenue Patwaris, while urban voters should do so with the Local Municipal Council.

Addressing the eligibility criteria outlined in Form-1 by the Chief Commissioner of Gurdwara Elections, Jain stressed that every eligible voter must be a Keshadhari Sikh, non-trimmer, non-smoker, non-drinker, and should be at least 21 years old. Jain urged Patwaris and Municipal Council Employees to liaise with local Gurdwara Committees in their jurisdictions and schedule special enrollment camps. Prior to these camps, comprehensive publicity campaigns through Gurdwara Sahib loudspeakers were advised to ensure widespread awareness. Jain personally visited a camp organized by Halka Patwari in Gurudwara Sahib Sohana and commended its success in garnering a positive response from the community.
