As harrowing tales of coronavirus patients continue to come, some stray dogs were spotted feeding on a semiburnt dead body of a suspected Covid-19 patient near a river bank in Hajipur on Friday. The body was left on the ghat in semi-burnt condition by health officials on Thursday. Immediately after the locals raised an alarm, the health officials rushed to the spot along with the police force and the body was cremated after postmortem.
Post-mortem staff Raju Kumar Malik while talking to the media said, “He was coronapositive and we had come to cremate the body but left when the villagers surrounded us.” He was talking about the incident that happened on Thursday. The deceased was quarantined at Ambedkar Kanya Vidyalaya in Digghi area of Hajipur. His samples were collected on 19 May and were sent for testing.
The man committed suicide on the next day and later was found coronapositive on 21 May. Locals complained that those who came to cremate the body didn’t follow the protocols and left the body in semi-burnt conditions. The District Magistrate of Hajipur, Udita Singh, however, rejected the claims and called the entire incident as rumour mongering by locals. She also added that the body didn’t belong to the Covid-19 patient but someone else and emphasised that the body of the coronapositive patient was cremated completely on Thursday.
