Dismissed inspector suspected to be a drug smuggler, arrested

After being dismissed by Punjab Police, Inspector Parminder Singh Bajwa and his two cop aides, a trio who were posted at the Narcotic Control Cell in Ferozepur, were arrested on Monday. The development came after they falsely implicated two persons in a drug case and extorted a huge amount of money from the victims. As per sources in the Punjab Police, there are a lot of blanketed facts that will be revealed soon.

Punjab Police also recovered 3710 intoxicant tablets (Tramadol SR 100 mg) and 4.7kg of intoxicant powder from the house of dismissed Inspector Parminder Singh Bajwa, said Inspector General of Police (IGP) Headquarters Sukhchain Singh Gill here. The other two cops who were dismissed from service have been identified as ASI Angrej Singh, and Head Constable Joginder Singh.

Divulging details, IGP Sukhchain Gill said that, continuing the investigation into the case, the police teams from Ferozepur had conducted a search at the rented private house of dismissed Parminder Bajwa and recovered a huge quantity of intoxicants. He added that the search was conducted following due procedure in the presence of the duty magistrate.

He said that regarding this recovery, a fresh FIR no. 99 dated August 1, 2022, has been registered against dismissed Inspector Bajwa under relevant sections of the NDPS Act at Police Station Kulgarhi in Ferozepur. Further investigation is going on, he added.

As per official data, Punjab Police have arrested as many as 2205 drug smugglers, including 260 big fish, since 5 July 2022. The police have registered a total of 1730 first information reports (FIRs) in the span, of which 145 are related to commercial quantity.

IGP Sukhchain Singh Gill, who was addressing his weekly conference on Monday, said that the police have also recovered Rs 48.95 lakh drug money from the possession of drug smugglers arrested last month.

In addition to this, the police have also arrested 99 proclaimed offenders and absconders, wanted in NDPS cases, in the past month, he added.
