Vice Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi took over as the new Vice Chief of Naval Staff on Thursday. Prior to this role, he served as the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command.
An alumnus of the National Defense Academy, Vice Admiral Tripathi was commissioned in 1985. Specializing in Communication and Electronic Warfare, he has commanded several frontline warships and held key operational and staff roles.
Promoted to Rear Admiral, he served as Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Policy and Plans) and Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet. In 2019, he became Commandant of the Indian Naval Academy.
From 2020 to 2021, Vice Admiral Tripathi was Director General of Naval Operations, ensuring the Navy remained combat ready during the pandemic. His service continued as Chief of Personnel until February 2023.
