When Amitabh Bachchan was banned by media for 15 years

Bollywood ‘Shahenshah’ Amitabh Bachchan is one of the greatest and most influential actors in the history of Indian cinema. Big B gained popularity in the early 1970s for his many hit films like Zanjeer, Deewaar, and Sholay. He has won numerous accolades in his film career, including four National Film Awards as Best Actor, Dadasaheb Phalke Award as a lifetime achievement award, and many others. For those unaware, the actor was banned by the media for 15 years.

In the year 1975, former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had declared an Emergency. During that time, Big B’s family was close to the Gandhi family. The actor even stepped his foot into politics and won at the Allahabad elections. Many magazines and channels were banned during the emergency. Also, there were reports that Big B used his influence to shut down a magazine.

Due to this, a cold war brewed between the magazines and the megastar, and they banned him. But it was only after the actor met with a fatal accident that the first article on him was published 15 years later.

According to reports, the magazine offered a peace treaty by publishing an article on Big B. After the actor’s films started failing because of not much coverage and promotions, it is when he finally sat down with the MD of the magazine and cleared the air.

The actor even wrote on his blog about the misunderstanding that was created between him and the media due to which he was banned for 15 years.
