‘DIAL 112’ FOR CENTRALISED EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE, HARYANA LAUNCHES RS 300 CRORE PROJECT

In a bid to strengthen the law and order in Haryana, the police department has launched Dial 112, an integrated number under Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) for all three police, ambulance, and fire emergencies services here on Monday. The previous numbers 100, 101 and 108 for police, fire and ambulance services respectively will be in force until the next orders are issued by the concerned department. ERSS is an integration of Police, Fire and Ambulance helpline numbers to provide emergency services through the single number 112. While launching the service, Chief Minister Manohar Lal who also flagged off 630 new vehicles associated with the service said that the new service will prove a milestone to maintain law and order in the state as the needy persons who called on the above member would get assistance just within 15-20 minutes. Arshinder Singh Chawla, ADGP is the nodal officer of the project who looked after it so far. The dial 112 facility will be operational by 13 July at 8 am.

It is pertinent to mention that the whole project is worth about Rs 300 crore which is a sizable amount and the sanctioned budget has been spent on fresh four-wheeler vehicles, infrastructure, new buildings along with other requirements. It came to light that nearly Rs 42 crore was spent on the construction of the new building located on the Panchkula-Shimla National highway. Regarding the same, Home Minister Anil Vij said that the new emergency service is most likely to tighten the noose around the neck of criminals across the state and besides, it would be a ray of hope for those looking for emergency services in critical times.

According to the information shared by the officials, the system will be operated by approximately 5000 trained personnel, more than 600 brand new four-wheeler vehicles equipped with 23 in-fleet items to take required action on the spot. It is worth mentioning that the new services would be available in at least three languages (Hindi, Haryanvi, and Punjabi) and one dialect along with a foreign language (English). The single number would eliminate the need for people to remember multiple numbers.
