“Detention became brainstorming session,” says Congress leader KC Venugopal

During the ongoing protests by the Congress leaders which eventually resulted into their detention  including Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, congressmen were seen in Delhi’s Kingsway police camp.

KC Venugopal , senior Congress leader, exalted themselves for converting the “detention into a brainstorming session.”

Taking it to Twitter, he said, “We have converted the police detention centre at Kingsway Camp in Delhi into a brainstorming session of the Congress Parliamentary Party on issues of price rise, Agnipath, GST on food items, national security, the falling rupee & other issues concerning the people of India.” Additionally, he shared a video.

The controversy was intentionally caused when the Enforcement Directorate (ED) questioned Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi twice on the National Herald Case. The MPs organised a protest march from Parliament to Vijay Chowk to deliver a message to the recently sworn-in President Droupadi Murmu.

Among the jailed lawmakers were Manickam Tagore, a member of the suspended Lok Sabha, and Mallikarjun Kharge, the leader of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha. They were photographed earlier in the day when they were being transported to the Vijay Chowk police station by buses.

When Gandhi was first arrested, authorities withheld information about his destination. Additional Congress members were seized and removed by different police vehicles.

The MPs apparently strategized before leaving for the protest march while Sonia appeared before the ED for a probe in an alleged money laundering case involving the National Herald newspaper.

Ajay Maken, general secretary of the AICC, claimed that Congress MPs and leaders were denied permission to hold satyagraha outside Rajghat, the Gandhi monument, where they also demonstrated in front of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi.
