Worries persist over Mumbai’s air quality, which continues to register in the “moderate” category. Data from the SAMEER App indicates an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 155 at 9 am. While light smog is observed in various areas, the India Meteorological Department forecasts mainly clear skies with expected maximum and minimum temperatures of 35°C and 24°C.
According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data, several areas in the city report poor air quality, except for Borivali and Worli, with satisfactory AQI at 89 and 99 respectively. Areas like Bandra Kurla Complex, Malad, Colaba, Sewri, and Kandivali record AQI levels exceeding 200, with Kandivali reaching the highest at 267.
Thane and Navi Mumbai report “moderate” air quality, with AQI at 149 and 129 respectively.
IQAir’s live city ranking places Mumbai eighth globally, with Delhi and Kolkata at second and third with AQI at 414 and 242 respectively. Lahore, Pakistan, leads the list with an AQI of 486.
The AQI scale categorizes readings from 0 to 50 as good, 51 to 100 as satisfactory, 101 to 200 as moderate, 201 to 300 as poor, 301 to 400 as very poor, 401 to 450 as severe, and above 450 as severe plus.
