In a decisive move to combat the rampant issue of illegal mining, Deputy Commissioner Sushil Sarwan led a crucial meeting of the District Level Task Force Committee (Mining) today. The Deputy Commissioner, who chaired the session, reiterated the need for stringent measures to eradicate illegal mining activities in the district.
During the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Sarwan conducted a comprehensive review of the guidelines established in the previous session. He issued explicit directives to officials, emphasizing the urgency of taking immediate action against individuals involved in illegal mining. Furthermore, he urged a prompt submission of reports related to any complaints regarding illegal mining within a two-day timeframe. This initiative aims to facilitate swift and effective responses to curb the illicit practice.
Recognizing the significance of collaborative efforts, the Deputy Commissioner stressed the importance of cross-coordination among the members of the District Level Task Force Committee. He specifically highlighted the necessity for thorough mapping of the area and the confiscation of vehicles engaged in illegal mining to the maximum extent possible. Deputy Commissioner Sarwan also called for a detailed report on the measures implemented to counter illegal mining, seeking transparency and accountability.
In addition to these directives, the Deputy Commissioner advocated for regular surprise inspections conducted by relevant authorities to deter and address illegal mining activities. The meeting was attended by key officials from the mining department, as well as other concerned departments.
Among the attendees were District Mining Officer Gurjit Singh, HSVP’s XEN NK Payal, Kalka’s XEN Satpal Kadayan, PWD SDO Anil Kamboj, and various other officers and employees. The collective effort showcased a unified front in the commitment to combatting illegal mining and upholding the integrity of the district’s natural resources.
