Delhi: World Bank President nominee Ajay Banga finds Covid positive

Ajay Banga who is the US nominee for World Bank President, tested positive for Covid upon his arrival in New Delhi on Thursday and now has been quarantined according to local regulations. He is tested positive soon after arriving and has yet to meet any Indian counterparts.

According to a spokesperson of the US Embassy in Delhi, Banga underwent multiple Covid tests during his tour and tested negative before leaving for India, but tested positive for the disease once there. During his visit to India, Banga will meet with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and Prime Minister Modi.

The main topics of discussion will be the World Bank, India’s development priorities, and the challenges facing global economic development.

“Ajay Banga has not yet met with any Indian counterparts.” “He is quarantined in isolation in accordance with local guidelines,” the US Embassy in New Delhi’s Spokesperson told the reporters.

On March 23-24, he will visit India, capping a three-week global listening tour that began in Africa and progressed to Europe, Latin America, and Asia.

Banga will also visit the Learnet Institute of Skills, a network of vocational institutes established in collaboration with the National Skills Development Corporation and partially funded by the World Bank. Banga will learn about the Institute’s programme and meet with participants, staff, alumni, and private sector partners to discuss how it is improving participants’ lives and economic opportunities, particularly for young people.
