To deal with the menance of fake oxytocin hormones prevailing in dairy colonies, the High Court of Delhi has demanded the authorities take action against the issue.
Quoting the law in force, the division of Justice Manmeet PS Arora and acting Chief Justice Manmohan has ruled that without the required authorization, providing oxytocin is illegal.
The court has further asked the Department of Drugs Control or GNCTD, to carry out inspections routinely and ensure that instances of spurious Oxytocin or its use are in accordance with legislation in force.
The court has also asked Intelligence department of Delhi police to locate its suppliers and prosecute the offenders.
The appeal filed by Sunayana Sibal, Asher Jessudoss and Akshita Kukreja (alleging laws violations in Delhi’s dairy colonies) also emphasized that in order to protect public health and stop animal abuse, dairies must move to locations which have suitable infrastructure and hygienic conditions.
Even though the court acknowledged the need for relocation, but it has refrained from the issuance of further orders opting for more discussions with appropriate authorities.
As a result, the key officials of Veterinary, food safety and municipal bodies are instructed by the court to come to the May 8 proceedings.
