Delhi gets general aviation terminal for chartered planes, business jets

Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) launched India’s first ever General Aviation Terminal facility for private jets today at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA). This terminal has been prepared specifically for business jets and chartered planes to keep them away from the clutter of general passenger terminals.

This terminal is in the vicinity of Terminal 3 of the Delhi airport and has been developed over an 8 lakh sq ft area with about 57 dedicated bays. It has been set up in compliance with safety and precautionary measures implemented in view of the COVID-19 pandemic. The terminal is ready to cater to 150 private jet movements on a daily basis and 55 to 60 aircrafts can be parked in the terminal.

Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of Civil Aviation, who was present at the inauguration ceremony said, “A general aviation terminal was the need of the hour at the Delhi airport, which is India’s busiest airport, even in these COVID times. The dedicated GA terminal would fulfil all the needs of general aviation users, without passing through regular terminals. I am sure this new general aviation terminal at the Delhi airport, built by DIAL, would contribute to the growth of the civil aviation sector in the country.”

This terminal has a modern architecture with spacious passenger lounges, retail and F&B sections, and a common processing area with Customs and Immigrations. Immediate access to private jet aircraft stands from the Terminal. It also has facilities such as restrooms and briefing areas for crew members and staff.

“This terminal will serve as an iconic gateway to India for business and leisure travellers and it signifies our recognition of the positive economic impact the general aviation industry has on this community. This terminal will cater to the growing passenger traffic when the aviation sector lands back to pre-COVID times and make their travel experience more convenient and comfortable,” said GBS Raju, Business Chairman, GMR Airports (India).
