Delhi excise policy scam: Court extends Dinesh Arora ED remand by 6 days

The Delhi Rouse Avenue Court on Tuesday extended the ED’s remand of businessman Dinesh Arora in connection with the ongoing investigation into the Delhi excise policy scam. The Enforcement Directorate represented Arora in court today at the completion of his remand period.

On Tuesday, Special Judge MK Nagpal granted the ED’s remand application and extended Arora’s remand by 6 days. While seeking further remand, ED counsels claimed that while in ED custody, he was confronted with specific people and papers related to the payment transfer of cash and proceeds of crime.

The ED further added that he has divulged certain critical facts and identities of those receiving proceeds of crime, but that searches are being conducted in Delhi and the NCR based on the information provided by the accused, which will result in the recovery of incriminating material.

According to the ED, three more people have already been summoned to join the investigation, including one person whose premises are being searched today, and they are expected to join the investigation in a day or two. The accused is also to be confronted with the people and to find the destination of the Rs 2 crore in criminal proceeds.

In the same case, Arora has been designated as an approver by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). “I have not seen the grounds of arrest. Please see the background. It is a peculiar case. Before pardon was given on November 16, 2022, ED had called him in September,” Vikas Pahwa, senior counsel, appearing for Dinesh Arora submitted.

“His statements are being relied upon by the ED in various Prosecution Complaints. This court while rejecting bail, has ‘relied on his statement’,” the counsel submitted.
