Delhi: Amrinder Singh meets BJP chairman Nadda today

Prior to his official entrance into the saffron fold, former Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh visited BJP chairman JP Nadda in Delhi on Monday. Singh will combine the Bharatiya Janata Party with the Punjab Lok Congress, which he launched after leaving the Congress last year. Along with Amarinder Singh, six former Congress politicians, including former MLAs, are anticipated to join the BJP.

Amarinder Singh is also likely to merge his PLC party with the BJP,” Punjab Lok Congress (PLC) spokesperson Pritpal Singh Baliawal said on Friday.

Singh left the Congress after being abruptly removed by the party’s high command as Punjab’s chief executive last year. Charanjit Singh Channi took Captain’s place six months before the assembly elections. The BJP and the Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa-led Shiromani Akali Dal participated in the state assembly elections in coalition with Amarinder Singh’s Punjab Lok Congress (Sanyuk).

In New Delhi, Singh recently met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah amid rumours that he will soon join the BJP and have a major position there.

After the meeting, he tweeted, “Had a warm meeting with Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji. We discussed various issues related to Punjab and resolved to work together for safety and security of the state and the country, which has and will always remain of paramount concern to both of us.”
