In a significant move to bolster youth engagement and contribute to nation-building, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has granted approval for the establishment of four additional National Cadet Corps (NCC) Units in the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.

The approved proposal encompasses the formation of one Mixed (Boys & Girls) Army Battalion each at Udhampur (J&K), Kupwara (J&K), and Kargil (Ladakh), along with the establishment of one Air Squadron at Udhampur (J&K), as detailed in an official handout.
The expansion plan is poised to increase the strength of the NCC in J&K and Ladakh by 12,860, marking a substantial 46.1% rise from the existing 27,870 cadets. Presently, the Directorate operates with two Group Headquarters, housing a total of 10 NCC Units, covering all three geographical regions.

The envisioned augmentation aims not only to enhance the overall strength of the NCC but also to invigorate the morale of the youth in the region. The additional units are expected to play a crucial role in nurturing leadership qualities, discipline, and a sense of national duty among the cadets.

This strategic decision aligns with the government’s commitment to fostering the holistic development of the youth and empowering them to actively participate in the progress of the nation. The Defence Minister’s nod to expand NCC presence in Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh underscores the significance of youth involvement in nation-building initiatives.
