According to official statistics, 14 people have died as a result of sunstroke at a Navi Mumbai award ceremony so far, but Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut claimed on Thursday that the actual death toll was between 50 and 75. He also accused the Maharashtra government of concealing the true number of victims. Raut claimed that he spoke with party members in the Raigad district’s Uran, Shrivardhan, Roha, and Mangaon talukas who informed him that the true death toll in Kharghar was more than what the government had stated. Officials have said that 14 people died after suffering from sunstroke during the Maharashtra Bhushan award ceremony held in the Kharghar area of Raigad district, adjacent to Mumbai, on Sunday.
