In a significant development before the Lok Sabha elections, the Punjab Congress faces another blow as Dalvir Goldy, who contested from the Sangrur Lok Sabha seat, has tendered his resignation from the party. Expressing discontent with the Congress, Goldy’s departure has sparked speculation that he might join the BJP and could potentially be fielded as a candidate from Sangrur under their banner.
Goldy, a prominent figure in Sangrur politics and actively involved in the party’s election campaigns for the past three months, expressed dissatisfaction with the party’s decision to nominate Sukhpal Khaira. Despite efforts from party leaders, including President Raja Warring, to persuade him to support Khaira, Goldy remained resolute in his decision to resign.
In a concise three-line resignation letter addressed to Punjab Congress Chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Goldy stated his resignation from the leadership of Punjab Congress, as well as from his position as Sangrur District Chief and primary party membership.
Taking to social media to announce his resignation, Goldy conveyed the weight of his decision, expressing the difficulty of his choice known to his family, relatives, and close acquaintances.
This resignation comes amidst prior speculations regarding Goldy’s dissatisfaction with the party, despite attempts by candidate Sukhpal Khaira to convince him otherwise, further solidifying Goldy’s departure from the Punjab Congress.
