CTA urges PM to reinstate Chief Commissioner post for efficient governance

Kamaljit Singh Panchhi, President, and LC Arora, General Secretary of Chandigarh Traders Association, Sector-17 (Regd), have written a letter to Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, with a copy to Amit Shah, Union Home Minister.

Chandigarh has a unique feature of being the CITY BEAUTIFUL, where the literacy rate is above all in India, and it is designed to suit all ranks. Almost all Union Territories in India are governed by Vidhan Sabha or a set group of Ministers empowered to decide all rules and regulations for the better future of its residents.

The Administration in Chandigarh is based on the Central Government, where certain prime issues are decided, and a few decisions are taken by the Administrator, i.e., the Governor of Punjab for more than 33 years on delegation of powers. Earlier to this, the super and first person of the city was the CHIEF COMMISSIONER of Chandigarh, who was fully empowered/competent to take decisions on all issues, of course based on Central Government guidelines.

In view of the above, we have a clear reason to request your high office to reinstate the post of Chief Commissioner in UT Chandigarh so that every resident of Chandigarh is relieved from the long and cumbersome process of dealing with cases. The people of Chandigarh now feel that if the post of Chief Commissioner is revived, he will have the powers to take decisions on local issues by being aware of the real needs of the residents, and he will be able to implement the decisions without any delay.
