The open skies are wreaking havoc on the unharvested rice crop stored in sacks at the grain markets of the region. The prolonged delay in lifting the rice sacks is causing substantial losses to the government. The purchasing agencies have seemingly neglected the crops, leading to the deterioration of the rice harvest in the grain markets of Amargadh division in the district over the last fifteen days.
The unharvested rice sacks at the grain markets are getting drenched in the rain due to the delayed lifting process, resulting in significant losses for the government. The quality of the crops, already a cause for concern due to recent rainfall, needs immediate attention.
The migrant laborers in the grain markets are compelled to guard the crops day and night. Laborer Darshan Singh revealed that migrant laborers arrived in Bhattiyan Khurd grain market on October 15. However, due to the delay in lifting, they are now forced to guard the sacks, adding an extra layer of hardship. This has led to the wastage of the hard-earned money they earned during the season. Each laborer earned around 15,000 rupees, but now they are left with only 7,500 rupees. It remains uncertain whether they will be able to return home with the remaining amount.
Singh mentioned that the purchasing agencies have procured the crop, and around 6,800 sacks are exposed to the open sky at the market. The current situation calls for urgent attention to prevent further deterioration of the crop quality and to address the plight of the laborers who are witnessing their earnings vanish due to the delayed lifting of rice sacks.
