Crackdown on cybercrime: Arrests made in nationwide fraud scheme

Director General of Police Shatrujeet Kapur stated that this operation marks the largest initiative by the Panipat Cyber Crime Police Station against cybercriminals. The four arrested individuals, involved in an online fraud scheme, deceived 4575 people across different states and union territories. Investigations revealed that they defrauded victims of Rs 15 crore 83 lakh 22 thousand 679. A total of 179 cases and 4396 complaints have been registered against the accused nationwide, including 10 cases and 210 complaints in Haryana. Providing detailed information about the case, Superintendent of Police,Panipat Ajit Singh Shekhawat stated that the investigation began after Yash Garg, a resident of Sector-12, filed a complaint at the Panipat police station cybercrime unit. Garg reported being scammed while seeking a franchise opportunity from a sports company he found on Google. Subsequently, a case was registered, leading to an extensive investigation and efforts to apprehend the culprits.
The suspects employed various fraudulent tactics, including setting up fake websites and conducting bogus lucky draws, over the course of one and a half years. Following interrogation and completion of the remand period, all four accused were presented in court and subsequently remanded to judicial custody.
