After the Supreme Court’s change in the definition of Covid-19 deaths (those who die of heart attack or any other cause within 30 days after being tested Covid positive in Gujarat should also be considered as Covid death), the state government has decided to provide financial assistance to such people.
The Gujarat government took the initiative as per the order of the Supreme Court and in comparison, to other states, for the first time, about 22,000 people received the aid of Rs 50,000, said Revenue Minister Rajendra Trivedi.
The minister informed that according to the Supreme Court’s new definition of Covid deaths, the Gujarat government has taken the initiative and has so far examined 22,000 people out of a total of 38,000 applications. Earlier, 10,093 petitions were received by the Gujarat government as per the old definition of Covid deaths but now the number has increased as the definition has been changed by the Supreme Court. Forms for this assistance are available at all hospitals as well as collectors’ offices. The form can be filled online or offline, the minister added.
