Flying taxis have often been considered a pinnacle of technological advancement for decades. And, they also act as a symbol of technological expertise that is possessed by a country.
However, by 2025, this might become a reality in India. Taking to X, the chairperson of Mahindra & Mahindra Anand Mahindra has recently revealed the details of India’s first flying taxis, which is developed by company incubated at IIT Madras.
In addition, Mahindra also shared pictures along with details of the upcoming ePlane.
As per the released information, this electric e-taxi enjoys the range upto 200 km, will take off, and land vertically
It also enjoys the payload capacity of 200 kgs, meaning it will easily be able to carry two passengers at once.
Even though some details are still under wraps, the company has revealed that these flying taxis will operate at altitude level of 0.5 to 2.0 km. Will travel at the speed of upto 200 kmph.
Thus, making customers reach on their destination, a lot faster compared to road vehicles.
Meanwhile, the fare of these taxis will be double, in comparison to road taxis. Thus, including the benefits of taking just 10 minutes for covering distances of upto 10 km.
With the prototype just at the first step, a lot of work is left, before people witness the flying electric taxis in skies.
However, in order to make this project a reality, regulations and necessary infrastructure is needed, in order to ensure safe and efficient operations.
But it is said, with development of larger fleet, the rates will later come on par with a regular app-based taxi.
