Convoy of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed reaches Kota

The Uttar Pradesh Police team that took incarcerated gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed from Ahmedabad’s Sabarmati jail on Sunday arrived late tonight at Rajasthan’s Kota hanging bridge.

Next Tuesday, Atiq Ahmed will appear in a special court to face the verdict in the Umesh Pal kidnapping and criminal conspiracy case. On Sunday, Atiq expressed concern that he would be murdered while being transported to Prayagraj by Uttar Pradesh police from Ahmedabad’s Sabarmati Central jail.

Ahmed told reporters waiting outside the Sabarmati jail that a plot is being hatched to kill him under the guise of following court orders.

Atiq Ahmed said “Court Ke Kandhe Par Rakhkar Hume Maarna Chah Rahe Hai (They are using the court’s orders as a pretext to kill him),” as he was led inside a police van. Ahmed, who has been imprisoned in Sabarmati since 2019, is being returned to Prayagraj in connection with an old Umesh Pal kidnapping case in which he is the main accused.

According to an order issued by the Uttar Pradesh High Court, the verdict in the kidnapping case will be delivered on March 28. All of the defendants in the case, including Atiq Ahmed, will appear in court.

According to Prayagraj Police Commissioner Ramit Sharma, Atiq is being transferred to Prayagraj because he is scheduled to appear in court on March 28 in connection with a kidnapping case, the verdict of which is expected on the same day.
