Next Congress President will not be a ‘Gandhi’, Ashok Gehlot confirms filing nomination

Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Ashok Gehlot, confirms he will contest for the position of Congress President. On Thursday, he said he will fill the nominations for the Congress Presidential poll as soon as the date is declared.

While talking to the media, Gehlot stated that Rahul Gandhi doesn’t want a ‘Gandhi’ to be the next President of Congress.

“I will file a nomination, then the other process will be in place, and an election can also be held. This all depends on the future,” Ashok Gehlot said on Thursday.

Meanwhile, a lot of claims were made that Rahul Gandhi should be the head of the Congress party once again. But he declined the opportunity as he now wants the party to not be headed by a ‘Gandhi’ to clear the party’s image of a Gandhian party and nepotism.

Gehlot denied making any comment in particular and stated that he is waiting for the decision of the Congress High Command and the MLAs of Rajasthan.

Gehlot is a strong name in the Congress presidential elections along with Shashi Tharoor, who has got a green flag for the president face from Congress chief Sonia Gandhi.

The process of filling out the nominations for the post will start on September 24th and will continue till the 30th. The last date for withdrawal of nomination is October 8th.

If there is more than one nominee, the elections will take place in October. The counting will be done and the results will be declared on October 19th.
