The election is set to take place on 5 January for the Karanpur assembly seat. In this regard, on Thursday, the Congress announced its candidate for this seat. The Congress has given the ticket to Rupinder Singh Kooner, the son of the late MLA Gurmeet Singh Kooner. Rupinder also filed his nomination yesterday. Meanwhile, former minister Surendra Pal Singh Titi is the BJP candidate for this seat.
The elections for this seat were postponed on 19 November due to the death of Congress candidate Gurmeet Singh Kooner. Elections were held on only 199 out of 200 seats in the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly on 25 November. The last date for filing nominations for the election is 19 December. Nomination scrutiny will take place on 20 December. Names can be withdrawn until 22 December. The polling will take place on 8 January.
Apart from Congress, candidates from other parties, including BJP, and independent candidates have already filed their nominations.
It was expected that the ticket for the Karanpur seat would be given to Gurmeet Singh Kooner’s son. The Congress had given tickets to family members of leaders in by-elections while being in government, and it proved beneficial in the by-elections. Last time, in cases where the MLA passed away, tickets were given to their sons or wives, and most of them were successful in winning.
