Congress Party showers special love on Lingayats during elections: CM Bommai
Bagalkot: (Mudhol), April.18: The lingayat voters in Karnataka are vigilant and they have always taken the right decision when required. The Congress Party has shown special love for them after the Assembly elections were announced. It was the same party that tried to divide the lingayats and veerashaivas. The people have not forgotten the divide-and-rule policy of the Congress party, said Chief Minister Basasavaraj Bommai.
Talking to reporters before the BJP candidate Govind Karjol filed his nomination papers in Mudhol on Tuesday, he said the Congress Party had opposed the reservation for the Lingayats. It had opposed its inclusion in the 2A category in 2009 and rejected it in 2016. The incumbent BJP government created a separate category, 2D, and hiked the quota for the lingayats. Now, they have instigated somebody and filed a case in the Supreme Court questioning the reservation for them. The Congress leaders opposed every development of lingayats. None one has forgotten the ‘Jilebi’ file clearance prevailed in the Siddaramaiah Government.
The CM sought to know what the Congress government did regarding the UKP issues and it was unable to irrigate one acre of land. Farmers of that region observe everything including all those who are in political, social, and administration fields and how many lingayats are in the State Cabinet. More than anything, after 1967, except for Veerendra Patil, no lingayat has become the chief minister of Karnataka. Even Patil was treated badly by the Congress leaders. People know what happened to the lingayat leaders like M.Rajashekar Murthy and Virupakshappa. Now, they are treating former Ruling Party leader S.R.Patil very badly and denying him the post of Opposition Leader in the Legislative Council and the post of the Council Chairman.
Bommai said this region was developed because of the BJP Government. The party developed both Kalyana Karnataka and Kittur Karnataka and ensured social justice. All those leaders who joined Congress during the election would not make any impact on the BJP’s prospects. This time, the BJP will win more seats than in the 2018 Assembly polls.
Not in anybody’s clutches
The CM said the State BJP unit was not in the clutches of anyone since it is the national party and has a separate system. Democracy prevailed in the party under the supreme leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Those who are making the charges must know that they were also one power center.
