Congress observes day-long ‘Sankalp Satyagraha’ amid Rahul’s disqualification

After the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi as a Lok Sabha member, the grand old party has been organising a day-long ‘Sankalp Satyagraha’ on Sunday to show solidarity with Rahul Gandhi in front of Mahatma Gandhi’s statue across the country. The Satyagraha got underway at 10 am and will continue till 5 pm.

However, the Delhi Police have not allowed the Congress party workers to carry out a protest at Rajghat. As per the police, the disruption of traffic was the reason for disallowing the satyagraha rather than imposing Section 144 of the CrPc in the area.

In spite of restrictions, several Congress leaders like party president Mallikarjun Kharge, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, KC Venugopal, Jairam Ramesh, and others arrived at Raj Ghat for the mass level agitation.

Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi has changed the status of his twitter handle, which now reads “Disqualified MP.”

The top brass of the Congress has taken the decision to organise a protest against Rahul’s disqualification as a member of the lower house following his conviction in a 2019 defamation case. Rahul made a remark during the 2019 Lok Sabha election polls in Karnataka that “why do all thieves have Modi surnames?”

Rahul Gandhi aggressively said on Sunday that he is ready to save democracy in India despite his disqualification from the Lok Sabha. He went on to say that his disqualification is a ‘big weapon’ for the Opposition.

The veteran BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said in his statement that Rahul Gandhi defamed the backward community, and his conviction has come in a defamation case for his defamatory remarks made in 2019.
