A statement by Congress MP Ravneet Bittu has emerged regarding the hunger strike of Rajoana, serving a sentence in Patiala Jail. Bittu has raised several questions about Rajoana’s hunger strike. Taking a sharp aim, Bittu stated that Rajoana’s hunger strike was merely a drama. Bittu remarked that this is all drama by the Badal family and a well-thought-out conspiracy. He questioned whether the hunger strike had even started, as no one knows about it. Bittu added that Rajoana has become a puppet in the hands of the Badal family.
Bittu also raised various questions about the high-level committee formed by SGPC to seek clemency from the central government. He said that these people are not given any time by the DC, so how will they get time from the President. In fact, a five-member committee has been formed by SGPC to seek clemency for Rajoana’s sentence. The committee will make this demand to the central government.
Balwant Singh Rajoana had requested to withdraw the petition seeking clemency filed with the President. On not withdrawing the petition, Rajoana announced the start of a hunger strike. It is noteworthy that on the directions of Shri Akal Takht Sahib, SGPC had filed a mercy petition with the President on March 25, 2012, to convert Rajoana’s death penalty into life imprisonment. Despite 12 years passing, no decision has been made to date.
