Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, a prominent Congress leader, faced suspension from the Lok Sabha on Thursday due to “deliberate and repeated misconduct.” The issue has now been forwarded to the Privileges Committee for further evaluation.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Pralhad Joshi, spearheaded the motion for Chowdhury’s suspension, condemning his behaviour as a blatant disregard for the House and the authority of the Chair. “This House, recognizing Chowdhury’s serious and continuous misconduct, has resolved to send the matter to the Committee of Privileges for a comprehensive investigation,” Joshi elaborated.
The House echoed this sentiment, endorsing the resolution through a voice vote.
Earlier, Chowdhury’s comments regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi led to a significant uproar and were subsequently removed from the official proceedings. BJP members vociferously opposed Chowdhury’s remarks, with Joshi leading the charge, demanding an apology.
