Cong charts course for Lok Sabha polls in Delhi meetings

In view of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, activities have increased in the Congress as well. Meetings of observers, appointed for constituencies across the country, are starting in Delhi from Friday onwards. During these meetings, discussions will be held with state-wise observers on various days, and they will be given directions. The observer for the Alwar constituency in Rajasthan, Dharmendra Rathore, mentioned that the meeting for Rajasthan, under the leadership of Rajni Patil, will take place in Delhi.
Sources say that the party is planning to assign several responsibilities to the party observers, ranging from the selection of candidates to the election. Although discussions on state-wise constituencies for key seats have already begun in the party.
Surveys are also being conducted by party units. The party realizes that the upcoming elections pose a challenge. However, relying on alliances, the party hopes to face tough competition in 2024. Therefore, the party is not showing any hesitation in selecting candidates in states where it will directly compete with the BJP. There is a growing consensus in the party that party officials and legislators should not contest elections.
However, if any official wishes to contest elections, they may be given an opportunity. Regarding Rajasthan, it is speculated that the party might challenge ministers and legislators who lost the elections. Along with that, opportunities may be given to young faces associated with the organization.
The party is facing a crisis in states like Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh, trying to avoid leaders taking up the challenge of contesting elections. The party is facing a similar situation in other states as well. The party’s hopes are higher in states with alliances.
In Bihar, Maharashtra, and Punjab, there are several contenders for seats. However, in large states like Uttar Pradesh, the party is facing a candidate crisis. The party’s entire hope is pinned on the alliance. According to sources, the party’s first attempt is to somehow bring BSP into the alliance with SP.
For this, it is ready to contest elections on fewer seats.
