Confusion persists on Sonia Gandhi’s retirement

Congress party has come out with clarification that former President Sonia Gandhi is not retiring from active politics. But confusion remains on whether she will contest upcoming Lok Sabha elections. 85th AICC plenary session which was just concluded in Raipur has amended the party constitution to accommodate former AICC President and Chairperson of the party as permanent member of the Congress Working Committee. Sonia Gandhi holds the post of Chairperson of Congress party. There are precedents that without being elected as MP a person can be Chairperson of the party. After the Raipur AICC plenary session, Priyanka Gandhi addressed the public rally along with Party President Mallikarjun Kharge. Priyanka Gandhi herself spoke lot about UP. It is also speculated that in upcoming Lok Sabha polls Priyanka Gandhi may replace Sonia Gandhi in Raebareli Constituency.
