To meet the demand for coal-fired power plants, Coal India has estimated its supply to the power industry for the years 2023–2024 at 610 million metric tonnes.
According to a press release, this is 23.4 million metric tonnes, or 4 percent, more than the record-breaking 586.6 MT it provided to power plants in the recently ended fiscal year. In 2022–2023, it supplied the power industry at an all-time high of $586.6 million.
Coal India’s production and off-take for 2023–24 is targeted at 780 million tonne.
“We do not foresee a situation where the power generation will be interrupted for want of coal,” said the senior executive.
