Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal emphasised the interconnectedness of language in books, drawing parallels with the symbiotic relationship between the body and soul. He made these remarks during the inauguration of the second Panchkula Book Fair, organised by six departments under the auspices of power companies at Yavanika Park in Sector-5 on Monday.
The National Book Trust also played a significant role in the fair, which will continue until January 22. Approximately 100 publishers have set up stalls offering books in Hindi, English, Urdu, Sanskrit, Punjabi, etc. The theme of the book fair is “Haryana illuminates with the light of knowledge; knowledge flows through electricity.”
The Chief Minister stressed the enriching power of books and encouraged people to read not just for display but for acquiring genuine knowledge. He highlighted the timeless nature of knowledge and the role of books in relieving mental stress.
Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s suggestion against giving bouquets, the Chief Minister mentioned the establishment of a library at Sant Kabir Kutir, his residence. He urged people to read the book “Raag Darbari” written by Shivlal Shukla, as it contains articles by Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay on the direction of national life.
He highlighted the immeasurable significance of linguistic knowledge, tracing its evolution from letters to words, sentences, language, script, and eventually, books. In the digital age, the concept of e-libraries has emerged. The Chief Minister inaugurated three new libraries remotely: Sardar Patel Library Samana Bahu Karnal, Sardar Patel Library Mohadi Kurukshetra, and Sardar Patel Library Dholra Yamunanagar.
During the event, the Chief Minister unveiled the book “Gyan Pravah” from the e-magazine “Vidyut Pravah” and commemorated 25 years of reforms in power corporations. He also released a book by Dr. Pramod and Anu Gupta of the Higher Education Department.
Haryana Legislative Assembly Speaker Gian Chand Gupta, presiding over the occasion, emphasized the importance of reading history books to familiarize the new generation with their historical heroes. Chairman of Electricity Corporations PK Das provided detailed information on various aspects of the second Panchkula Book Fair.
