City solutions: Rajeev Verma engages with Chandigarh’s key issues

Chandigarh administrator’s advisor Rajeev Verma addressed key issues faced by the city’s residents. Verma emphasized the need for cooperation from the public to address city problems.

Recognizing vehicle parking as a significant challenge, he pledged to engage with social organizations and citizens to find solutions. Verma highlighted plans to enhance online services, introducing five new services at contact centers to reduce the need for physical visits to government offices.Responding to concerns about the potential removal of 1700 employees, Verma assured that officials were instructed to explore alternatives. He clarified that the employment of outsourcing and contract workers would not be terminated. Verma expressed the administration’s commitment to preventing worker exploitation, considering the formulation of a policy for outsourcing and contract employees similar to Haryana’s model.

Drawing inspiration from Haryana, Verma discussed the possibility of creating a Skill Employment Corporation to manage temporary employees, ensuring fair selection processes. He revealed that Home Secretary Nitin Yadav would soon develop a policy for outsourcing and contract employees in Chandigarh, focusing on employee welfare.

Addressing issues like delayed salary payments, Verma stressed the importance of timely payments for employee motivation. He promised to issue orders to ensure outsourcing and contract employees receive their salaries promptly.

Verma also indicated a readiness to address complaints of contractors taking unauthorized fees and urged strict action in such cases. Finally, he mentioned plans for a meeting to discuss relocating the Sector 26 market to Sector 39, aiming to resolve community issues effectively.
