In response to the prevailing foggy conditions in several districts of Punjab, the Department of Education has decided to alter the timings for all government, aided, recognized, and private schools. Schools will now open from 9:30 AM in the morning until 3:30 PM. This directive will come into effect starting Monday. Education Minister Harjot Singh Bansal shared this information through a post on social media, mentioning that this decision was taken under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. The new timings will apply to all primary, middle, high, and senior secondary schools across the state. Punjab is currently witnessing a decrease in nighttime temperatures, with a recorded decrease of 0.9 degrees Celsius on Saturday. Over the past two days, temperatures have dropped by 3.7 degrees Celsius. Additionally, the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for Sunday, especially warning of dense fog in most parts of Punjab during the morning hours. The Meteorological Department has advised caution while driving during these conditions, emphasizing the importance of practicing safe driving habits. Due to the dense fog expected in the coming days, there could be further reductions in nighttime temperatures in Punjab.
This timely decision to adjust school timings is aimed at ensuring the safety of school children commuting during foggy conditions, aligning with the government’s commitment to prioritizing the well-being of students. Parents and guardians are encouraged to make note of the revised school timings and take necessary precautions while traveling during foggy weather.
