A meeting of the Chandigarh Traders Association Sector-17 (Registered) was held under the chairmanship of Kamaljit Singh Panchhi, during which Saurabh Joshi, Area Councilor of Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, was invited. The meeting discussed some major problems faced by shopkeepers and the public in the areas of Sector-17A and 17B, Chandigarh. A memorandum was also submitted to Saurabh Joshi, the Area Councilor, outlining the main demands.
One key demand is the installation of tiles near the Smart City Office parking slot behind the Anand Complex in Sector-17A. People encounter difficulties walking in this area, especially during rainy days. Another urgent need highlighted in the memorandum is for smart public toilets behind the old Canadian Embassy office and in front of Hotel Hyatt in Sector-17A, Chandigarh. The lack of such facilities is causing inconvenience, particularly for senior citizens, women, and children commuting through the newly constructed underpass from Rose Garden to Sector 17.
The area, especially the market near KC Cinema in Sector-17B, lacks proper lighting and is often dark. Adequate lighting is necessary to enhance safety and create a more welcoming environment for everyone.
Pruning of trees is needed throughout the area of Chandigarh Sector-17A and 17B. It was observed that at some light points, signal lights are covered by tree branches, obstructing the visibility of the green and red signals.
The passage also emphasizes the importance of a dedicated children’s play area to enhance the family-friendly atmosphere and provide a safe place for youth to have fun. While acknowledging the improvements in the new parking system under MCC, the passage suggests the need for additional staff to guide computer-assisted disciplined parking.
Lastly, the barricading of Sector 17A near Hotel Oyster, preventing visitors from entering, is criticized for causing inconvenience to valued customers and hindering the business of shopkeepers.
