Chandigarh roads to remain closed on December 22 amid Amit Shah’s visit

During the upcoming visit of Home Minister Amit Shah on December 22nd, several roads in Chandigarh will be closed. To facilitate this, an advisory has been issued by the Chandigarh Police, urging people to avoid roads from Sector 2 and 3 Chowk to Sukhna Lake from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

Routes from Sri Guru Gobind Singh College to Sant Kabir School on Sukhna Path will also be closed, along with the diversion of the route from Shyam Mall near Labour Chowk towards Zirakpur on Dakshin Marg. The police advise people to stay updated by checking Chandigarh Police›s social media accounts before venturing out during this time.

In preparation for the visit, a rehearsal will be conducted by the Chandigarh administration tomorrow, and these roads will also remain closed during this period. Home Minister Shah is scheduled to inaugurate a project worth 375 crores at Chandigarh College of Engineering and Technology in Sector 26. Additionally, he will hand appointment letters to 44 ASIs and 700 newly appointed constables, with preparations underway by the Chandigarh administration. The Home Minister›s program is scheduled for the afternoon, and he will stay in the city for about 3 hours.

Amit Shah will inaugurate the country›s first Cyber Operations and Security Center at a cost of 88 crores in the Chandigarh Air Force Heritage Center building. He will also inaugurate a Himachal Boys Hostel with 140 rooms at Punjab Engineering College, costing Rs 20 crore. In addition, several projects will be inaugurated, including a new sewage treatment plant (STP) at a cost of 89 crores in the Municipal Corporation and a 50 crore STP plant in Raipur Kala.

Other inaugurated projects include a 40 crore STP plant in Raipur Khurd, an administrative block at a cost of 18 crores in Sector 26 CCET, 192 Type-2 government houses costing 45 crores in Dhanas, and an approximately 7 crore government middle school building in Palsora, Sector 56. Alongside the induction of new SIs and constables, Amit Shah will provide about 25 Tata Safari vehicles to the Police Department, purchased for 3 crores and 75 lakhs. Additionally, command and control vehicles costing around 75 lakhs will be provided to the police to monitor incidents of protests and other disturbances in the city.
