CHANDIGARH RECORDS HIGHEST COVID-19 CASES, JABS IN A DAY

Call it a coincidence that for the first time in the last four months, Chandigarh saw 49 COVID-19 cases, the highest for a day, and also it is the first time for the city to witness nearly 13000 people getting inoculated for COVID-19 in one day. UT Health Secretary Yashpal Garg told The Daily Guardian, “Today 12243 COVID vaccinations done in UT Chandigarh which is the highest in a day during last four months. At some places, the vaccination is still going on and by 09.00 pm, we may reach the figure of 13000.”

So far, Chandigarh Health Department along with PGIMER had given 1st dose to 985805 people in Chandigarh which is 116.94 percent beyond the target of 100 percent and 747745 people had received 2nd dose so far, which is 88.70 percent of the target. The target population beyond 18 years is 843000. On 31st December, Chandigarh witnessed 12243 Covid vaccinations that have been inoculated in a day. Whereas the average since the last seven days has been 9431 jabs daily.

Amardeep S Reen, the official representative of United Sikhs, and founder of ASR Foundation, said “We have Vaccination camp at Sukhna Lake of Chandigarh and we have seen a huge number of people coming for vaccination. Today we had vaccinated around 450 people. I feel the sudden rise in vaccination number is resultant of both, the subconscious fear of third-wave resulting from Omicron variant and the stricter guidelines imposed by the administration/govt., which I see as a good step.”

Garg said: “Today we could add 10 additional teams and 10 more teams will be added from tomorrow. All Covid-19 vaccination centres will remain open on Saturday and Sunday, as usual. All those adults who are yet to take 1st or 2nd dose may get it done immediately without any further delay. Vaccination for the children (15 to 18 years) will start from 3rd January 2022 as per the schedule, and all preparations have been done for the same.”
