Chandigarh Municipal Corporation is now preparing to give its vacant properties in the city to Public Private Partnership (PPP) based projects. For this, the corporation will appoint a consultant. That consultant will survey the vacant properties and submit a report to the corporation. On the basis of this report, it will be decided which project can be implemented in which property through PPP mode.
An attempt was made by the Municipal Corporation to auction its vacant properties, but due to the high rates in the market and the properties being given on leasehold, they could not be auctioned. The corporation had sought permission from the UT administration to give such properties on a freehold basis, but it’s permission has not been received yet. There are many properties of the Municipal Corporation inside the city that are lying vacant. These include about 105 booths in Vikas Nagar, booths 17-22 at the subway, and 18 booths in Maulijagra. Apart from this, 40 booths on the newly constructed bridge in Sector 17, a booth in Sector 38 D, a vacant booth in Sector 41 AC fish and meat market, and many other properties are included in Manimajra.
All these properties of Chandigarh Municipal Corporation are worth crores of rupees, but despite repeated tenders, they have not been auctioned. Due to this, the corporation is incurring huge losses. Now the corporation has not even tried to auction them for a long time.
